Rep. Jim Jordan, a U.S. Congressman representing Ohio’s 4th district since 2007, posted on July 30, 2025, a series of tweets alleging efforts by the British government to monitor and censor online discussions during a period of significant civil unrest in the UK.

In his first tweet, Jordan stated: "In an email to Big Tech, one of the UK’s tech regulators—known as DSIT—told platforms to monitor 'narratives about . . . a ‘two-tier system.’" (July 30, 2025).

He continued with another post: "But the UK government didn’t stop there. It also tried to censor public debate about immigration and asylum policy during this period of heightened public debate." (July 30, 2025).

Jordan further asserted: "That’s right: the British government was trying to censor criticism of itself during the largest British riots in over a decade in August 2024. The oldest trick in the censorship playbook." (July 30, 2025).

Jim Jordan has served in Congress since replacing Mike Oxley in 2007 and previously held seats in both the Ohio House of Representatives and Ohio Senate. Born in Troy, Ohio in 1964 and currently residing in Urbana, Jordan holds degrees from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and Capital University.

The tweets refer to actions by DSIT (Department for Science, Innovation and Technology), a UK regulator involved with technology policy. The referenced period includes major riots that occurred across Britain in August 2024.
