Rep. Jim Jordan, U.S. Congressman representing Ohio’s 4th district since 2007, posted a series of tweets on July 25, 2025, raising concerns about content moderation practices and the influence of civil society organizations under the European Union's Digital Services Act (DSA).

In his first tweet, Jordan stated: "Internal workshop notes from one American company show that these orgs are almost uniformly pro-censorship and called for aggressive content removals. The censorship-industrial complex sadly is still thriving in Europe." (July 25, 2025)

He continued by addressing the DSA’s requirements for companies operating in Europe: "Under the DSA, companies are also expected to solicit feedback on content moderation from civil society organizations—many of which are entitled to make priority censorship requests." (July 25, 2025)

Jordan further highlighted the powers granted to individual EU member states under the DSA: "The DSA also empowers individual countries to make takedown requests. Our documents show that EU countries are targeting political speech on core topics like immigration and the environment." (July 25, 2025)

Jim Jordan has served in Congress since replacing Mike Oxley in 2007. Before his tenure in Congress, he was a member of both the Ohio House of Representatives and the Ohio Senate. Born in Troy, Ohio in 1964 and currently residing in Urbana, Jordan holds degrees from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and Capital University.
