Mercy Health and the American Heart Association Present a Community Conversation on Heart Health

Cardiologists with Mercy Health will join with the American Heart Association (AHA) to present a free Community Conversation on preventive measures you can take to improve your heart health and reduce your risk of serious illness. The virtual Community Conversation runs from noon-1 p.m. on Thursday, September 29.

Dr. Angelica Hardee, vice president of health strategies for the AHA, will open the discussion by introducing Life’s Essential 8, key measures for improving and maintaining cardiovascular health and helping lower your risk for heart disease, stroke and other major health problems.

Mercy Health Physician and cardiologist Abhijit Desai, MD will address the key numbers and the family history you need to know, as well as the conditions you can manage to reduce your risk of developing heart disease. Dr. Desai will also introduce a preventive cardiology program Mercy Health has launched to screen patients at risk for developing inherited heart disease.

Mercy Health Physician and cardiologist Aaron Kay, MD will discuss who should have heart  screenings and when, as well as different cultural risk factors linked with the development of heart disease.

Mercy Health Physician and cardiologist Joe Miles, MD will talk about women and heart health and the conditions that affect women’s hearts more than men’s hearts. He will address what your risk score from a heart screening means for your heart health.
