City of Lima recently issued the following announcement.
Ready, Aim, Talk, a Candid Discussion on Gun Violence and Prevention
Date:
Mon, Feb 28, 2022
Time:
11:00 am - 3:00 pm
Cincinnati’s perinatal outreach program, the Fatherhood Collaborative of Hamilton County and Hamilton County Job and Family Services are the sponsors of Ready, Aim, Talk, a community discussion on gun violence and what we can do to prevent it.
It features:
- Panel discussion with men who have experienced gun violence
- Panel discussion with Community Health Workers who see the impact of gun violence
- “A Black Father's Plea,” a one-act play, about gun violence
- Original song about gun violence followed by a discussion of the lyrics
- Data from community resident and Community Health Worker surveys
- Presentation on gun violence and the criminal justice system
Davis expressed concern about the effects of gun violence on the families in communities served by CHWs. Davis and other CHWs see firsthand the stress that gun violence and worries about their children’s safety places on mothers. The CHWs worry for their safety, too, so Davis asked if the Fatherhood Collaborative could facilitate an event with young men from the community to have a candid conversation around gun violence.
If you are a community member interested in attending the event, please RSVP by Feb. 23 by emailing calvin.williams@jfs.ohio.gov. Please note in the email if you require a vegetarian meal.
Editor’s note: Kia Davis and Calvin Williams are available for interview. Because of the sensitive nature of the talks, the event itself is not open to media.
