FOIA Request to Van Wert County Regarding Vendor Payments from January 1, 2024, to September 26, 2024.
In our continuous efforts to promote transparency and accountability in local government affairs, we at Lima Reporter have sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Van Wert County Clerk of Courts. The request was made under the Ohio Open Records Law, §149.43 et seq., and was sent on September 26, 2024.
The records we requested include a comprehensive list of all payments made to vendors by the county within the specified date range. We asked for specific details such as the vendor's name, transaction date, description of the transaction, and the amount paid.
As a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, access to public records is essential for us. It enables us to fulfill our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
We believe that as members of the media involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals. We eagerly await a response from Van Wert County officials regarding this matter.
