Rep. Jim Jordan, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Ohio’s 4th district since 2007, posted a series of tweets on July 28, 2025, discussing tensions between American and British approaches to online speech and legislative responses in the United States.

In his first tweet, Jordan highlighted criticism directed at Reddit’s content moderation policies by British lawmakers: "He even singled out Reddit, claiming that its speech-friendly policies do not 'align' with 'the expectations of British lawmakers.'" (July 28, 2025).

Jordan continued by contrasting British standards with American principles: "In many cases, those British standards run counter to fundamental American free speech principles. This summer, the UK’s Information Commissioner described a 'clash of cultures' between the UK and American tech platforms." (July 28, 2025).

He also referenced recent legislative action in Congress: "And earlier this year, the Committee passed the No Censors on Our Shores Act, which would bar foreign censors from coming to the United States." (July 28, 2025).

Jordan has served in Congress since replacing Mike Oxley in 2007 and previously held seats in both chambers of Ohio's state legislature. He was born in Troy, Ohio in 1964 and currently resides in Urbana. Jordan holds degrees from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and Capital University.
