State Representative Angie King from Celina has successfully advanced legislation through the House to honor a fallen local service member. The bill, passed on Wednesday, aims to memorialize Army Private First Class John Wayne Richard by naming a portion of State Route 47 in Darke County as the PFC John Wayne Richard Memorial Highway.

King stated, "We pay tribute to the courage, dedication, and ultimate sacrifice of Pfc. Richard, who gave his life in service to our country. This memorial will stand as a lasting reminder of his heroism and unwavering commitment to our nation."

Pfc. John Wayne Richard was from Versailles and served in southern Vietnam during the Vietnam War. He lost his life while fighting communist forces on May 21, 1969.

The proposed highway designation will cover both northbound and southbound lanes between McGreevey Road and Long Road. The legislation now moves forward to the Senate for further consideration.
