FOIA Request to Van Wert County Regarding Public Records on October 7, 2024.
We at Lima Reporter, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, have sent a request for public records under the Ohio Open Records Law, §149.43 et seq., to Van Wert County.
Our request specifically asked for a list of FOIA logs that were sent to the county from January 1, 2024, until October 7, 2024. The fields we requested in these logs include the requester's name and organization, the content of their request, the date of their request and its completion date, as well as the status of the FOIA.
As journalists committed to transparency and accountability in public institutions, access to these public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.
