Ohio State University recently issued the following announcement.

NO. 4 BUCKEYES POST 6-1 WIN AT IOWA

The No. 4-ranked Ohio State women’s tennis moved to 2-0 in Big Ten play, as it defeated Iowa, 6-1, Friday in Iowa City, Iowa. The Buckeyes won the doubles point and the first five completed singles matches for the road victory. Irina Cantos Siemers and Isabelle Boulais both won in singles and doubles to lead the Buckeyes.

Ohio State, now 9-4 (2-0 B1G), will close the weekend with a match at Nebraska at noon ET Sunday. The Buckeyes will play a fourth straight road match at Arizona State March 27 before returning to Columbus and Big Ten play April 1 vs. Michigan and April 3 vs. Michigan State.

In Doubles

  • The Ohio State tandem of Kathleen Jones and Boulais posted the first doubles win, downing Barbora Pokorna and Michelle Bacalla, 6-1.
  • The Hawkeyes answered with a 6-3 win on court two by Marisa Schmidt and Samantha Gillas over Kolie Allen and Lucia Marzal.
  • On court one Ohio State’s No. 15-ranked tandem of Irina Cantos Siemers and Sydni Ratliff came back from down 1-4 to top Vipasha Mehra and Samantha Mannix, 7-5, and clinch the doubles point.
In Singles

  • The Buckeyes won two quick two-set matches to take a 3-0 lead.
  • On court five Shelly Bereznyak dropped just three games against Gillas, winning 6-1, 6-2, for a 2-0 Ohio State advantage. Marzal followed with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Mehra on court six.
  • On court two, No. 19-ranked Boulais dropped the first set, 6-4. She lost just one game the rest of the way against Bacalla, with a shutout in the second set, to clinch the Buckeye team victory.
  • 4-ranked Cantos Siemers and Allen both won in super tiebreakers to move the Buckeye lead to 6-0.
  • Cantos Siemers topped Schmidt, 6-4, 5-7, 10-3, on court one and Allen rallied for a 5-7, 6-4, 10-5 win over Porkona on court four.
  • The Hawkeyes won the final match, as Mannix defeated No. 43-ranked Ratliff on court three in a super tiebreaker, 7-6 (9), 2-6, 10-6.
