District 113 COVID-19 Mitigations Remain in Effect | Las Mitigaciones COVID-19 del Distrito 113 Siguen Vigentes

Coronavirus

Highland Park High School Cafeteria issued the following announcement on Feb 16.

Dear District 113 Community,

You may have heard news reports about a vote yesterday afternoon by the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules (JCAR) against the reissuance of rules that the Illinois Department of Public Health made on September 17, but COVID-19 mitigations remain in effect in District 113, including wearing face masks.

While the legal process is working its way through the courts, the D113 Board of Education has the authority to require masks in all D113 facilities. The Board voted to require masks on August 2, and we are still under that local authority.

At its February 8 meeting, the Board discussed an offramp from mitigations, and the Board will consider action at its February 22 meeting.

The federal order that requires wearing face masks on all public transportation including school buses is not a part of this litigation and remains in effect until the CDC rescinds the order.

I wrote in my email on January 27 that media reports about changes will come faster than my communication. As the JCAR vote demonstrates, changes can occur quickly, but my communication will come after we have had time to consult with legal counsel to determine the impact of those changes on District 113.

District 113 is committed to in-person learning in a safe and orderly learning environment. We appreciate your continued support and patience as these lawsuits in Sangamon County come to a conclusion.
