State Representatives Angie King (R-Celina) and Roy Klopfenstein (R-Haviland) have introduced a resolution in Ohio to condemn the People’s Republic of China for its role in the global drug trade. The resolution aims to shed light on the dangers faced by Ohioans due to the influx of illicit fentanyl from China.

Ohio has consistently ranked among the top 10 states for fentanyl overdose fatalities, with over 4,000 reported in 2020 alone, marking a 32% increase from the previous year. Shockingly, over 90% of illicit fentanyl in Ohio originates from China. Representative King expressed her concern, stating, "Regrettably, this number continues to rise each year." She emphasized the need to address this pressing issue and raise awareness of the daily dangers faced by Ohioans.

Representative Klopfenstein echoed her sentiments, acknowledging that the resolution may not directly impact the leaders of China or the drug cartels involved. However, he believes that it is crucial to shed light on the issue and hopes that Ohio can serve as a model for other states in addressing the global drug trade.

The proposed legislation is currently awaiting a bill number and committee assignment. Ohio's representatives are taking a proactive stance in addressing the impact of China's involvement in the drug trade, recognizing the importance of raising awareness and finding solutions to protect the citizens of Ohio.
